The feminine symbolism of the womb.
The womb is the primordial feminine symbolism, mirroring all that divine feminine energy represents. The medicine and wisdom of the womb is the medicine we need as a collective. Reclaiming honor for the womb is reclaiming honor for woman and the feminine in its entirety.
The medicine of the womb is intuitive, and cyclical dancing through creation, birth, and death in a current that is never-ending, forever flowing, flowering, blossoming, and eventually decaying back into the earth and ethers. The feminine symbolism that the womb represents is the many facets of the feminine psyche and the many tributaries of the Goddess that are evoked through its cyclical, shapeshifting nature.
The feminine symbolism of the womb carries the vast teachings of womxn, and the symbolism of maiden, mother, and crone are facets of this vastness.
Maiden, mother, and crone each untangle the teachings of feminine magic through the three initiations. Each initiation is a threshold in a woman’s life invoking and symbolizing big medicine, big magic, and big wisdom. May we lift the veils and see with clear eyes the medicine and power within us that we have been blinded from.
We begin with the Maiden.
The Maiden is initiated into womanhood when she has her first moon and begins menstruating for the first time. Her first blood is her initiation into the wheel of the womb. The hormonal cyclical nature summons her sexuality, sensuality, and vast emotional and spiritual nature.
The child begins to awaken as woman. The cyclical nature of the womb once menstruation begins is the symbolic foundation of feminine spirituality. Each cycle circles around between extroversion and introversion, light and dark, rebirth and death, unraveling a new layer, a new understanding, and a new maturity each time.
The collective wound of the Maiden is that she’s usually never told what is happening. She doesn’t understand this hormonal and spiritual pull that keeps dragging her underwater and shooting her back up to the surface. She isn’t taught to harness it, embrace it, honor it, use it, or see it as medicine. But when she does, the spark of her power is lit.
Most of us do not learn this for many years, if ever. It’s never too late, and it’s time that we start waking up together.
The symbolism of Mother.
The initiation of the Mother is a pause in the turning of the wheel where birthing spirit into physicality takes place. It’s pausing in the dark, intuitive, underworld while she gestates and manifests life. The veils become thin and they stay thin as this process happens whether metaphorically or literally.
The symbolism of Mother is to harness the space of the womb as the portal between spirit and earth. The symbolism of Mother is not confined to birthing a child.
Birthing through the womb is not always literal life. This growth within a woman is sometimes her energy body not her physical body. Whether that be the cosmic dreams of her high heart, the weaving of beauty through the Creatrix, or the rebirthing that heals her ancestral lines. Regardless, the womb is the gateway between worlds moving big energy, big medicine, and big magic.
When conception takes place (energetically and/or physically), the body grows as this light dances between worlds taking form, slowly but surely tapping its roots housed within the womben's womb. The woman eventually opens wide in surrender and birth happens. Just like when someone dies and their spirit rises out of their body, a woman births, and spirit enters this world.
May we remember and reclaim womben as the sacred vessel that she truly is - the keeper and channel of life.
The Crone
The Crone’s initiation is the process of her finding stillness as her cyclical nature slows and steadies through perimenopause. She roots back into the earth as the keeper of great wisdom, nesting into her power, ready to share, and guide from her throne of bone-deep knowing.
She embodies honor and respect and teaches this to the masses. Through her energy body, her community, family, loved ones, and spans of generations to come. She ripples her medicine forward and back through her ancestral lines, through the earth, and into the cosmos.
The elders have been forgotten as our guiding light. Some have abused their power while some are struggling to find their way, but I encourage us all to find the Crones in our life who can teach us, and may we awaken them to the wisdom they have to offer through asking, listening, and cherishing them for the lives they have walked, and the medicine they have gained from the shadows they have transmuted.
We as women have a sacred role on this earth and the womb is the absolute feminine symbol of this.
Our wombs are the keepers of the sacred alchemy that is constantly taking place. They move big energy. Regardless of whether we acknowledge it, or are conscious of it, the womb moves ancestral, personal, and collective medicine - constantly. This can be a lot to bear if we do not understand it or know well enough to honor it. It's a lot to bear in a society that doesn't acknowledge it. We are all the priestess, and we are the healer but most of us have not claimed ourselves as so.
Our wombs cyclical nature supports our soul's evolution over our life span. We continually ebb and flow between the building of energy, conception of new life, and opening wide for birth and death to happen at the same time. This is the magic and power of woman. The shadow cannot be separated from the light. Birth and death are bound.
As womben, our intuition ebbs and flows as the veils thicken and thin within our wombs themselves. Our creative life force expands and contracts with the infinite seeds of possibilities emanating life in the ovaries. Our sexual, and sensual energy breaths dancing like the inhale and exhale, raw and primordial, at its own pace, own rhythm, and raw truth.
The moon mirrors the sacred feminine symbol of our wombs. Ebbing and flowing, spinning, and churning between dark and light. We transform from a high vibration, buzzing with pupils dilated howling under the full moon, to turning outside-in, nesting, and hibernating under the dark night sky with hearts raw. The feminine is ebbing and flowing between the two always.
The tides of our wombs are pulled by the moon just like the ocean, and our connection to the wise grandmother moon awakens us to her crone wisdom teachings. The energy of the womb and the energy of the divine feminine cannot be controlled, planned, bridled, or constrained and the great grandmother crone teaches us of humble surrender.
Our wombs demand surrender. Listening, and stillness. And they invoke big luscious energy. Sexual energy. Sensual energy, creative energy. Primal, raw, intuitive, otherworldly awareness. But when we ignore her cycles, when we ignore her current, and her guidance, we are missing the lessons that we need most. She will always show us the way but we have to listen.
Our divine wombs will summon Kali if they must to wipe clean what is holding us back. They will summon Kuan Yin and the Divine Mother Goddess of unconditional love and compassion when our hearts are shattered. They will summon the passion of Aphrodite, the sovereignty and protection of Artemis, the wisdom of Athena, and the High Priestess to ground back into the medicine of the earth.
The womb is the portal to the divine. The womb is the portal of the Goddess in her many forms. The womb is the portal of the Creatrix, ancestral healing, downloads, visions, and dreams, and it’s the portal for children to be birthed.
Our ovaries are the keeper of dreams, and passion that is longing to be manifested or expressed. Our wombs can either nest and nourish life into form, or they can mulch, digest, and shed what needs to be shed. They birth babes from the spirit world, and the birth dreams from our soul.
The womb is a space of mystery.
Its feminine symbolism encapsulates all of this and regardless of our embodiment of physical uterus does not matter. Every single one of us has come from a womb and we all have access to this divine energy and can summon it within us.
The womb wisdom is the wisdom of the primordial mother. It’s the wheel of fortune in tarot, it’s the constant spiral from dark to light, from joy to struggle, from birth to death. This is human nature, and this is simply nature. Our strength is our ability to stay at the center of the wheel, not losing our footing in chaos and being able to see the cycles of life and death, and the only constant of change that is infinitely cycling within and around us forevermore.
It’s the embrace of these cycles, and the energy of each phase, that is our feminine power. This nature of cyclical energy, calls for surrender because no amount of resistance will stop it. Life is beautiful and life is challenging, and the more we can surrender to the challenges, will we see them as beauty and a crucial part of life that makes us whole.
Womben are the vessels between spirit and life, and for spirit to come through as life, surrender, and acceptance of the uncontrollable is our access point to receive. This is the wisdom of the Crone.
The feminine is of unconditional love and unconditional compassion. The heart is woven with the womb, and I believe this to be because to have such power of channeling, nesting, and birthing, life requires this to keep it pure.
The heart protects this power. It keeps it in integrity. It keeps it clear and humble. This is why the divine mother was once the ‘Almighty God’. The heart space keeps it clean, genuine, and honest.
The medicine of the womb has been buried beneath shame and myths that have influenced many women to see their emotional expansiveness, empathic nature, menstruation, birth, and menopause, as burdensome, while toxic masculinity has deemed them as weak or abused its power over them.
The divine feminine is waiting for us to wake up and reclaim the power of this medicine. The divine feminine is waiting for our bravery to see and own our power of heart-centered wisdom. The earth mother, great spirit, and our souls are all waiting for the great re-membering that only we can do.
The womb is the cauldron of the collective's intuitive wisdom. The great re-membering depends on us to surrender and listen to the dark waters of the unseen churning within us. These water are our guide to freedom, wholeness, and truth. These waters are our path to reclaiming the feminine way.
With love and honor of the womb, womben, and the feminine.
Until next time,
Abby
